Meet the Governing Body

Our Governing Body is made up of Salford GPs and healthcare professionals who work alongside an experienced management team to lead Salford CCG making sure our health services across the city are the best they can be. Read below an introduction to each Governing Body member and, if you wish to ask a question in person, come along to our bi-monthly Governing Body meetings.

Tom TaskerDr Tom Tasker

Tom has worked as a GP in Salford since 1997 and currently practices at St Andrews Medical Centre in Eccles. Tom has been the Clinical Chair of Salford CCG since 2016. Prior to that he was our Mental Health Lead and Neighbourhood Lead for Eccles and Irlam. Tom is firmly committed to improving the health outcomes of people in Salford and is determined to continually improve our engagement work with patients, public and member practices. In 2018, he was appointed as Chair of the GM Association of CCGs. This role involves operating across all 10 local authorities and with the GM Health and Social Care Partnership senior leadership team. Tom is Co-chair of GM Health and Care Commissioning and is leading the work to successfully integrate commissioning of health and social care across GM between local authorities and CCGs.


Anthony HassallAnthony Hassall
Chief Accountable Officer

A resident of Salford for 17 years, Anthony joined the NHS in 1998 and has undertaken a number of senior roles within primary and community care, the Department of Health, Cheshire and Merseyside Strategic Health Authority and in large teaching hospitals in Greater Manchester and Merseyside before joining Salford CCG in August 2015. Anthony has a strong background in developing robust, successful, strategic partnerships with health and social care organisations and believes firmly in the power of engagement with our local communities to ensure we deliver high performing services.





Steve Dixon

Steve Dixon
Chief Finance Officer

Steve Dixon has responsibility for the financial strategy, financial management and financial governance of the CCG, whilst also contributing to the development of the commissioning strategy and being an integral part of the
team redesigning clinical pathways.




Dr Tom Regan Dr Tom Regan
Clinical Lead for Transformation

Tom trained in Leicester, graduating in 2008 and has been a GP in Eccles since 2014.




Jeremy Tankel

Dr Jeremy Tankel
Clinical Lead for Quality and Safety/Medical Director

Jeremy qualified as a doctor in 1979 and has worked as a GP since 1987. His clinical interests include health prevention and minor surgery.





Nick Browne Dr Nick Browne
Neighbourhood Lead for Little Hulton and Walkden

Nick qualified in 1996 and started working at The Gill Medical Centre in 2005. He has a special interest in sexual health and substance misuse



Kate Jones Kate Jones
Neighbourhood Lead for Eccles, Irlam and Cadishead

Kate grew up in Salford and has lived locally all of her life and is both a user of Salford health care and a clinican. Since qualifying in 1981, she has worked in the hospital and primary care, for the past 11 years in general practice in Salford. Kate has always been keen to address health inequalities and sees patient leadership as integral to health improvement. Kate's clinical specialist interests are in diabetes and care of the elderly.  




David Flinn David Flinn
Neighbourhood Lead for Broughton

David has been the Practice Manager of a large Salford GP practice since 2008 and has also served as a Practice Manager Area Lead. Prior to that he has extensive experience in the areas of both Operational and Human Resource Management.



Dr David McKelvey
Neighbourhood Lead for Ordsall and Claremont

David qualified in 1985, and has worked abroad, in public health and as a GP in Ordsall since 2004.  He is interested in preventing illness, minor surgery and cycling.


Dr Chris babbs Dr Chris Babbs
Governing Body Secondary Care Clinician

Chris was appointed as a consultant physician in 1992 and moved to Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust in 1998 where he was director of endoscopy services. He was Training Programme Director for Gastroenterology in the North West and sits on the Governing Board to provide advice on secondary care commissioning.


Alison Kelly

Governing Body Nurse

Alison qualified as an Enrolled Nurse in 1988 in London then moved back to the North West where she converted to a Registered General Nurse in 1990. She has a wide range of experience as a senior nurse in the acute sector including experience at Salford and Blackpool, spending over four years in the position of Deputy Chief Nurse at University Hospital of South Manchester before taking up her first Executive Directors position at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Trust in March 2013.


Brian Wroe

Brian Wroe
Lay Member (Engagement)

Brian has significant and wide-ranging experience of working with the public sector, community and voluntary groups in Salford. As a police commander in Salford he helped to introduce neighbourhood policing to the city in 2004. During his time as an Assistant Director at Salford City Council, he played a leading role in developing community engagement and in devolving budgets to local communities.


Edward Vitallis

Lay Member (Finance and Governance)

Edward is a chartered certified accountant with a diploma in corporate governance. He has an extensive background in financial management and governance in the not for profit charities and private health, education and social care sectors.



Paul Newman


Paul Newman
Lay Member (Commercial)

Paul is currently Director of Communications for The Peel Group, the owners of Media City UK at Salford Quays. He has extensive previous experience of strategic and operational communications at the Liverpool Culture Company,
Cardiff County Council and The Football Association.
